Prepping guide to available remedies for radiation exposure

Dealing with dirty bombs, nuclear accidents and radiation exposure...
A flash of light, a burst of heat, and then the radioactive dust
(fallout). Survivors of the radiation blast can take heart that after
tragedy is a remedy! If you've survived, then you have hope.

The first thing to realize after a radiation emergency is that you
can't completely decontaminate your body after radiation
exposure from a dirty bomb or accident, but you can help your
body heal through detoxification. You must act swiftly regarding
the internal contamination, because the faster you act the less
severe the effects of a nuclear fallout will be. The remedy for long-
term survival is detoxification and following is a guide.

Remedies for radiation exposure
It's not possible to instantly decontaminate following a nuclear
bomb or accident; however you can help your body remove the
toxins over the days, weeks, months and years following the
cataclysmic event. Your home remedy for radiation detoxification
will take place in stages and you will use several of the known
radiation remedies...

#1: Activated Charcoal.
Activated charcoal, which has adsorption qualities, is a detoxifier
that physicians in the Emergency Room use for ingested poisons.
Through the process of adsorption,
activated charcoal binds to the
drugs or poisons so it doesn't get into your system and this helps
your body to excrete them.

According to MedScape.com
activated charcoal is a remedy for
radiation exposure .

Certainly activated charcoal works as a remedy for radon gas
exposure. The
adsorptive property of activated charcoal on radon
has been studied:

  • Results of studies show that activated charcoal helps with
the reduction in the radon concentration level (up to 25%)
according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, National
Institutes of Health. Unfortunately there is no recipe for how
to accomplish this, but it's encouraging none-the-less.

#2: Anti-radiation tablets (Potassium Iodide).*
One of the easiest of remedies for radiation exposure is to get
yourself some anti-radiation Potassium Iodide tablets. Buy iOSAT
Potassium Iodide Tablets BEFORE a radiation emergency when
demand will outstrip the supply.

A radiation leak from any one of 100 Nuclear Power plants in the
United States could be carried downwind for hundreds of miles,
potentially poisoning thousands or even millions of people in
largely populated areas. Don't wait for a terrorist attack to strike.
Be prepared with Nuclear Anti Radiation Tablets, such as
ThyroSafe, pictursx right or IOSAT, mentioned below  which are
much cheaper and just as effective.

  • IOSAT Potassium Iodide Tablets. Stockpiling of potassium
iodide (KI), aka Nuke Pills, is highly recommended by health
officials worldwide to prevent thyroid cancer of those
exposed to radioactive iodine following a nuclear reactor
accident or detonation of a nuclear weapon. Potassium
Iodide blocks the thyroid gland to protect if from absorbing
the radioactive iodine and technetium. This is the
    government issue brand.

  • ThyroSafe (65 mg., 20-count) ~ the pediatric option. Just
like IOSAT, Thyrosafe has Potassium Iodide which is an
effective remedy for radiation exposure. It's more expensive
than IOSAT, but you get more than double the amount of
IOSAT, and you get the option safe for kids. It's the
appropriate pediatric dosing. These are the generics.

  • Polar Pure. Polar Pure, pictured right, is an iodine Water
Purifier which completely sterilizes your drinking water from
all viruses, bacteria and all their mutations. It's important to
note that iodine may cause an allergic reaction with one
    more of the following symptoms:
  • shortness of breath or wheezing.
  • swelling ~ get medical help for swelling of hands and
    feet!
  • skin rash
  • trouble breathing, speaking or swallowing ~ look for
swellilng of the mouth and get medical help.
  • fever and joint pain
  • irregular heart or chest pain
For any of the conditions above, see medical help.

#3: Baking Soda.
Baking soda is another remedy for radiation exposure. Baking
soda,
Sodum bicarbonate "qualifies as a survival medicine,"
according to
Sodium Bicarbonate ~ Rich Man's Poor Man's Cancer
Treament Full  Medical Review by Mark Sircus. "In case of nuclear
attack you will want quite a bit of it on hand to protect your
failing kidneys and other sensitive tissues." In short, baking soda
is a nephroprotective for uranium.

Don't have baking soda on hand in an emergency?
Baking soda is an important prep to stockpile. Not only is it ideal
for
making no-yeast breads but there are survival uses to
consider beyond using it as a radiation remedy. If you don't have
baking soda on hand, remember that baking powder has baking
soda in it (along with cream of tartar and a few other ingredients).

#4: Bee Pollen / Bee Propolis.
The humble honey bee produces the “super foods” of bee pollen,
royal jelly and propolis; however, these radiation remedy
solutions are not for women who are pregnant.

    Bee Pollen.
Pollen is a potent substance collected by honeybees and
mixed with both bee saliva and nectar. This potent pollen
contains all eight essential amino acids. Among the natural
remedies for radiation exposure is bee pollen, which can help
lower the negative side effects. Bee pollen contains powerful
antioxidants to strengthen immune response and protect the
body from radiation. It's high in protein and carbohydrates,
and it has trace amounts of minerals and vitamins (and
Vitamin E is among them  ~ read more about Vitamin E
under Chelation in #7). Some studies prove this home
remedy for radiation is effective: A Russian study
documented in the U.S. National Library of Medicine,
National Institutes of Health, applied beta-carotene oil and
bee pollen to abolish radiation effectively!

    Bee Propolis.
Propolis is another potent plant resin collected by bees for
use in and around the hive. Bee Propolis is a gummy
substance made by honeybees that helps keep intruders out
of the hive. It makes entrances narrower to keep out
anything other than a honey bee! It has anti-inflammatory
properties and helps in wound healing. They combine it with
beeswax to fortify and sterilize their hives. Propolis has been
traditionally used for centuries as support for the immune
system. Propolis provides protection against harmful
    bacteria, viruses and fungi.

What makes bee propolis interesting for use in a radiation
emergency is because of the "therapeutic effect of propolis in
radiotherapy induced mucositis in patients with head and
neck cancer," according to a study published by the U.S.
National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health.
The study concludes that bee propolice efficiently prevents
and heals radiotherapy induced mucositis, which leads to
ulcers and erosions. These ulcers are so painful and cause
problems in eating and using bee propolist as a water-based
    mouthwash can significantly help.

#5: Bentonite clay.
Topical use of volcanic ash "clay" is known to rid the body of
toxins and would serve the body well to rid it of nuclear waste.
Your skin is a major organ to help you eliminate toxins.

  • Bentonite clay: Apply as a powder or mix with apple cider
vinegar to make a paste. For breast cancer or acne it's
beneficial to routinely excrete toxins by making the paste,
allowing it to dry and the cleansing the area with warm
water. Alternatively, one can dust the body with bentonite (it
works especially well if the body id  perspirating). The clay
will draw out toxins by absorbing the perspiration and then
disperse in shower or fall off gradually.

#6: Brewer's yeast.
Commonly used as an ingredient to brew beer, brewer's yeast
promotes cardiovascular and heart health, weight management,
healthy digestion and it can help also radiation exposure.

While not evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration for the
purpose of remedying radiation, adietary supplement of brewer's
yeast can help
before radiation exposure to help prevent a fall in
hemoglobin. Brewer's yeast is rich in vitamins, protein, and
minerals and supplies all the essential amino acids and chromium.
Again Brewer's Yeast is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or
prevent any disease.

#7: Chelation.
Chelation is a natural process of preventing absorbed nutrients
from getting into the bloodstream, such as removing heavy
metals. To "chelate" means to attach onto something.

Chelation therapy is know to remove lead from the bloodstream in
cases of lead toxicity. It may also help control or even reverse
arthritis, cancer, and stroke.  As a home remedy for radiation
exposure it also warrants further investigation.

  • Vitamin E:  Most people know Vitamin E for it's anti-aging
qualities, but there's so much more that this little
powerhouse does. Vitamin E is a chelating agent that unites
with oxygen in your body to prevent it from converting into
peroxides and in the process helps red blood cells carry
oxygen to the body. As a diuretic, Vitamin E can protect
against environmental toxins such as radiation by helping
    you excrete poisons.

  • Biodex Radiacwash Towelletes. Radiacwash towelettes,
are a chelating solution and can help wipe away radioactive
contamination. Radiacwash works better than plain soap and
water on metal isotopes and isotopes bound to metals.
These towelettes are U.S. Dept of Homeland Security (DHS)
approved and can be used safely for radiation
decontamination of unbroken skin and surfaces. Use in
conjunction with showering. Remember also that after use,
these towelettes will have been contaminated, as will the
towels you use in the shower. Discard all!

#8:  Dietary pectin.
Pectin is a fiber found in fruits that we preppers use as a
thickening agent in cooking and baking. Dietary pectin can
prevent poisoning caused by lead, strontium, as well as other
heavy metals and even as a radioprotective agent. Pectin will
bind substances in the intestine and add bulk to your stool in an
effort to excrete the toxins..

An apple a day may keep radiation away! Here is the abstract
which proves that
dietary pectin is a radioprotective agent.  It's
good to know for a radiation emergency that your canning
supplies come in handy.

Look to dietary pectin as an effective means of protecting against
radiation when the only food available to you is contaminated!
Take 5 grams once or twice a day for a month and drink plenty of
non-contaminated water.

#9: Epsom salt bath.
An Epsom salt bath is not the first step you should take. Consider
the Epsom bath a routine of detoxifying in the weeks and months
ahead. Your first step is in taking a shower and a chelation
regimen with
Radiac Wash towelettes.

Like baking soda, an Epsom Salt bath is more than therapeutic
bathing to detoxify. You'll need to bathe in about a pound of
Epsom salt. Alternatively, you'll need about a pound of sea salt,
rock salt, and a pound of baking soda in a hot bath as hot as you
can tolerate. Allow the salt to stay on body for 4-8 hours before
taking a shower.
Read more about Epsom Salt in Prepping.

#10: Foods.
Foods may offer nature's best in remedies for radiation exposure,
partially because of the vitamins they contain. Case in point is
Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D, who instituted "
A strict diet of
traditional Japanese food that was based on brown rice, miso and
tamari soy soup, seaweed, and sea salt" to his patients in
Nagasaki at the time of the atomic bombing at Hiroshima in
1945. He also restricted sugar intake. Why did his patients
survive while others did not? It was perhaps the food.

Consider that these foods naturally detox radiation:
  1. Alfalfa sprouts ~
  2. Apples (because of the pectin) ~
  3. Bee pollen ~ dietary supplement described above
  4. Beets ~ rebuilding haemoglobin
  5. Blue-green algae ~
  6. Broccoli ~
  7. Brown rice ~
  8. Cabbage ~
  9. Garlic ~
  10. Ginger ~
  11. Kelp ~ loaded with organic iodine, kelp will saturate the
thyroid so radioactive iodine won't absorb.
  12. Leafy greens ~
  13. Miso ~ Miso
  14. Olive oil
  15. Onions
  16. Papaya ~ papain is a papaya enzyme
  17. Pumpkin
  18. Rosemary
  19. Spirulina ~ "In Chernobyl, 5 grams of spirulina for 45 days
was used successfully against radiation poisoning," according
    to Gabriela Segura M.D.
  20. Seaweed
  21. Wheat grass

#11: Organic Coconut oil, Olive oil and Sesame Oil.
Similar to oil pulling, certain vegetable oils can draw out infection
and act as a natural antibiotic. Always choose organic oils for skin
or topical use.

#12: Prussian Blue (Radiogardase).
The United States government is stockpiling something called
Prussian Blue /
Radiogardase, which apparently is much safer
than iodine as a treatment option. Radiogardase (Prussian blue
insoluable capsules) is the only medical or pharmaceutical
countermeasure approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration to treat Cesium-137.

This medicine will remove certain radioactive materials from the
body after a radiation exposure. It acts to speed the removal fo
cesium and thallium, but it does not prevent all problems.

Unfortunately, Prussian Blue is not readily available in the open
market and it's not clear how quickly the U.S. government could
respond to a terrorist attack or accident. It's not something you
can stockpile as a prepper. Physicians must order a prescription.
This also causes a delay in getting the help you may need! The
reason for a prescription is that this drug can be just as
dangerous as the radiation exposure itself unless carefully
controlled in proper dosage.

Unless the FDA eases restrictions or unless you are a physician,
government employee, or pharmaceutical employee who can get a
hold of Prussian Blue legal or otherwise, you may as well forget
about this radiation remedy. It may be difficult to source in any
country without a prescription (or you may not be getting the real
deal).

For these reasons you should stock
Potassium Iodide (anti-
radiation tablets) so you can take immediate control of your
destiny and not rely on the government or a physician.

#13: Tea (both black and green teas).
While it's true that fluids fo any kind help with the excretion of
tritium, both black and green tea have show to have
radioprotective effects for radiation exposure.

#14: Vitamins and Minerals
Already mentioned above, Vitamin E is a chelating agent. Some
vitamins can decontaminate nuclear waste and help detoxify you
from the effects of exposure:

  • Calcium gluconate: Calcium gluconate provides a blockade
of radioactive strontium and calcium into the bone by
increasing urinary excretion, according to Medscape.com, the
leading online global destination for physicians and
    healthcare professionals worldwide.

  • Calcium chloride. Mescape.com also asserts that calcium
chloride provides a blockade into the bone. This increases
the patients urinary excretion of radioactive calcium and
    strontium.

  • Magnesium:

  • Potassium:

  • EMF Electronmagnetic Radiation dietary supplement. As a
homepathic choice for everyday radiation, right is a dietary
supplement to detox. Lidell Laboratories Detox EMF
detoxifies the body and temporarily relieves symptoms of
electromagnetic (EMF) radiation. This homeopathic remedy
detoxifies the body by stimulating the principal organs of
elimination: the liver, kidneys, and bladder. It counteracts
the ill effects of radiation from computers, cell phones,
television sets, power lines, household appliances, etc.

Finally, while there are many radiation remedies to take action on,
you must think before you stay where you are. Depending on your
proximity to nuclear reactors you may want to move, even if it
means moving far away from family and friends.

What more can you do about radiation?
Knowing remedies for radiation exposure is good, but how do you
know if you've been exposed and what more can you do?

#1: Get a Geiger Counter.
A geiger counter will help you detect radiaion

  • Radex geiger counter. The RADEX RD1212 Advanced
Radiation Detector / Geiger Counter with Online Software,
pictured immediate right in blue, is an affordable radiation
detection solution in the $200 range, when compared to
more expensive radiation detectors, running in the
    $500-$600 range.

#2: Get a radiation water filter:
Boiling tap water does not get rid of radioactive materials, so you
will need to get a radiological water filtration system. The
Seychelle water pitcher, pictured right, is the only water filter on
the market that provides up to 100% reduction of known
radiological contaminants.

Designed for use when disaster strikes, the Seychelle water
pitcher removes 100% of major nuclear contaminants from
drinking water, including removing 100% of gross beta, radium
226, uranium, cesium 137, strontium, plutonium, radioactive
iodine B1, and radon 222. Essential for a variety of emergencies,
including earthquakes, floods, fires and radiological catastrophes!
Protects your family with clean, safe drinking water in the event
of a radiological emergency with the S
eychelle water pitcher.

#3: Skip Radiation treatments.
Radiation is a known carcinogen, so why do doctor's prescribe this
as medicine? It's unbelievable that doctors give radiation to
cancer patients when they know that radiation causes cancer.
Patients undergoing radiation treatment will see skin changes,
including blistering or peeling, plus fatigue. These are hardly
signs that the body is thriving.

The harmful effects of radiation exposure don't need to happen in
the doctor's or dentist office. Here's how to avoid everyday
radiation...

  • Bringing lunch into the office to reheat? Microwaving at
home? Throw away your microwave (or stop using the one at
work)! Seriously, you have no use for radiating your food. If
you eat out, you likely are getting radiated food, but you can
control what you make yourself. Take time to cook food the
old fashioned way or eat cold food  ~ a sandwich, a salad,
    raw fruits and vegetables.

  • Travel for work? Get a job that doesn't require so much
flight or schedule more Skye or Facetime conferences. See
how you might conduct an online training instead of flying so
    much.

  • Dentist ordering annual X-rays? Skip it or ask to go a
couple of years until your next visit. Dentists make money on
the X-rays and really don't need to have them so often. Look
for a naturapathic dentist, but know they are hard to find.
The New York Times agrees that Dentists are a bit zealous
and you don't need Dental X-rays every year.

If you or a loved one has cancer, please read our natural and
alternative cures to help survive cancer.

What are safe radiation exposure levels?
This is a complicated question to answer because it depends
partially on your age and weight and exposure. Radiation to the
whole body is different from radiation controlled to a specific area
of the body. Also,
radiation dose charts are complicated.

Your occupation is also a factor. Astronauts and employees of a
radiological facility will experience more radiation than other
people. Radiation is a factor also for pilots, flight attendants, and
frequent fliers, as well as some medical professionals.

Most people can agree that radiation from anywhere but the sun
is something you should avoid. In a radiation emergency, you'll
need to plan your own remedy for radiation exposure, because
you may not have government help.

What has history taught us?
It started in Japan with Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 during
the final stage of World War II when bombings ushered in the
Atomic age and nuclear threats loomed. There was Three Mile
Island, Pennsylvania in 1979; Chernobyl, Russia in 1986; and in
Fukushma Japan in 2011. All are examples of nuclear disasters
that happened one after another.

But have you heard of SL-1, the experimental nuclear power
reactor in Idaho? What about the Tokaimura nuclear accident of
1997 in Japan?  Or the Kyshtym disaster of 1957 in the Soviet
Union, which was the day Russia nuked itself?

There is but one lesson we stupid humans never learn. History
repeats itself. There will be another disaster like the ones before
It is for this reasons preppers must be ready for the inevitable!

As
North Korea is taunting the United States with its nuclear
prowess, it's not a bad idea to stock up on anti-radiation pills and
to learn more about
what to do in a radiation emergency.

There is no remedy for taxes!
The only thing that's certain in a nuclear is death and taxes! The
article from 1989 entitled "Nuclear War Plan by I.R.S." According
to the New York Times article, "
It will take something more than
a nuclear attack to wipe out taxpayers' obligations to the Internal
Revenue Service." You will pay taxes if you survive.

Happy endings...
You can ensure a happy ending for you and your family by taking
precautions and educating youth about the dangers of nuclear
power. You'll need to watch what you eat, be sure to filter your
water and think before you stay:

  • What you eat: Ensure you have long term food supplies on
hand. Stockpile beef, milk and egg products well before the
radioactive particles coat the land making fresh products
unusable. Consider not only the 37 foods to hoard in crisis,
but have a plan for storing grains, freeze dried foods and
dehydrated foods. Plan your prepper's pantry now!

  • Filter your water: Get a radiological water filter,

  • Think before you stay: A dirty bomb or radiation accident
emergency could leave you at risk long after the news crews
leave and stop covering the devastation.
